Gorillaz Pop-Up Shop Opens in Downtown LA With New Album Merch

A Gorillaz pop-up shop is now open in downtown Los Angeles, offering fans exclusive merchandise and a preview of the animated band’s ninth studio album, The Mountain. According to Billboard, the Gorillaz: House of Kong LA Gift Shop at 1005 Mateo St. is free and open to the public, stocking clothing, stickers, jigsaw puzzles, comic books, mugs, and more from across the group’s catalog. Items tied to the new album are set to arrive in store on Friday, the same day the record releases.

The pop-up also gives visitors a photo opportunity with the 1969 Chevy Camaro from the 2010 “Stylo” video, nodding to the band’s visual storytelling. It opened a week ahead of a larger House of Kong exhibition in LA, an audiovisual experience created by Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett with artist and creative director Stephen Gallagher, following a London run in late 2025. The shop’s hours are noon–6 p.m. PT daily through Wednesday, then 10 a.m.–10 p.m. PT from Thursday through March 19.

What’s Inside the Shop

The House of Kong LA Gift Shop is positioned as both a retail stop and a fan experience. As Billboard reports, the space offers album-spanning Gorillaz paraphernalia, including apparel, accessories, and collectibles. Editorial observation: Coinciding the shop’s opening with album week allows the band to turn a physical storefront into a kind of walk-in press kit, especially for a group whose identity is rooted in visuals and world-building.

For local fans, the timing dovetails with Gorillaz’s album rollout and recent live activity in LA. The group just played a pair of sold-out shows at Hollywood Palladium on Feb. 22–23, performing The Mountain in full, as the San Bernardino Sun covered. Those concerts previewed new songs such as “Orange County,” performed with guest vocalist Kara Jackson, and featured collaborators including Asha Puthli, Posdnous of De La Soul, and Idles’ Joe Talbot.

Why It Matters in LA

Los Angeles has become a central hub for this Gorillaz campaign. The pop-up anchors the band’s physical presence in the city, while the Palladium shows and the upcoming House of Kong exhibition deepen the connection. For SoCal fans, the shop offers a chance to grab exclusive merch and take part in a moment that bridges music and visual art, without needing a concert ticket.

Gorillaz’s broader 2026 schedule keeps eyes on the band beyond LA: the group will make its Saturday Night Live debut on March 7, hosted by Ryan Gosling, and is also confirmed as a headliner for the Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta on Sept. 18–20, alongside LCD Soundsystem and Wu-Tang Clan, as Spin and Brooklyn Vegan reported. While no additional Southern California dates have been announced, the pop-up and exhibition suggest the city will remain a focus for Gorillaz throughout the early part of the year.

Looking ahead, fans can visit the House of Kong LA Gift Shop through March 19, with The Mountain merch arriving Friday. The House of Kong exhibition itself is slated to open in LA soon after the shop’s launch, expanding the immersive side of the Gorillaz universe. For anyone tracking the band’s next moves, the pop-up is a tangible starting point.
